HOW TO ORDER VINYL LETTERING?

  • Measure the area that you want to fit your lettering into.
  • Sketch out the wording on paper or create your layout using a graphic program like corel draw 12.
  • Decide on the colours you want and the font styles. Vinyl Lettering Fonts   Vinyl Colour Chart
  • You can either tell us the capital heights of the lettering you want or leave it to us to work out. To work out the height of your lettering take your line length divide/by the number of letters and you will have a rough idea of the letter height. This works if all the letters are capitals in say a Helvetica Bold font.
  • If you have sketched out your layout on paper, scan it and Send us your sketch by email or fax. If you have made up your layout on a graphics package such as corel draw 12, send us the file by email as a jpeg file, We also take PDF files. Please note if you are sending us your graphic file, change your text by  breaking apart the text then convert to curves, export as AI or EPS files. We ask this because we may not have the same fonts on our computer as you have got.
  • We will then confirm your price and layout by email or fax.
  • If  you are happy with the price you will then need to pay by credit card over the phone or you can  make a payment by paypal to our sales@arro-signs.co.uk account.
  • ArroSigns will then make your vinyl lettering and send it by post. You may wish to order online through our paypal shopping cart. ORDER ONLINE HERE

Vinyl lettering will stick onto gloss painted wooden shop fronts as long as the surface is properly painted. If for some reason the letters don’t seem to want to stick very well onto the surface because the surface is not as flat as it could have been, the letters should still be able to fit with the application of some heat from a hair dryer. Don’t use a paint striping gun as you may set fire to the sign which would not be very good idea.

Black vinyl letters, American Typewriter Bold Font, two sets at 88″ long by 11″ high and some smaller letters at 4″ and 2″. Supplied for DIY fitting, sent out in the post to Bridgewater.

A test. Just testing to see how PDF files can be linked to this blog. This file is a PDF of a vinyl lettering job we did recently. The text has been converted to curves, so there are no fonts attached to the file. It is purely a test blog to see how the PDF imports into various programs. Layout of Vinyl Order as a PDF file9994

Athena Layout of vinyl letters in a Balmoral Font. The letters were ordered 150mm height.

There is an important note to be made about the Balmoral font. First it only works when used as upper and lower case and does not read very well when used only as capital letters, also when we work with the Balmoral font we have to edit and weld the text to  join up the words and create a sentence that works.

Another point about the Balmoral font is that the Capital height of the letters hold little relationship to its measured height, so when a customer orders 150mm high letters in the Balmoral font for instance the lettering is input on the computer as 150mm capital height but the actual total height comes out as 233mm measured from the very top to the bottom of the Capital letters  or more.

150mm is the Capital height, the call up height, while the 233mm is the total measured height.
When a customer orders 150mm high letters the letters will actually measure more than 150mm they will measure at least 233mm high or more depending on the wording.

When we did this order for the customer we decided to supply the letters at both heights and leave them to decide which size lettering will fit the best on their sign.

Weeding Vinyl Lettering.

A short youtube of weeding vinyl letters in a font called New Boston in black gloss vinyl.

Weeding Vinyl Letters

The words ‘WEST ROODS’ is the name of a house, here is the layout of the words, the font is called New Boston. The letters were cut in black self adhesive vinyl.

The call up height of the lettering was 120mm high which made the actual measured height 135mm. The line length came out at 792mm. Because we thought the customer actually wanted the letters to measure 120mm height we decided to supply one set at the call up height and another set at the actual measured height.

The actual total measured height of the letters is the height that is physically measured with a ruler from the very bottom of the letters to the very top of the letters.

The callup height is the height of the letters requested when the height is input on the keyboard in to the computer program we use. The call up height is usually the capital height of the letter ‘X’.

The call up height of the font New Boston is the height for the letter ‘E’ not including the drop shadow part of the letter so that the actual measured height is larger. If we call up 120mm on the computer it actually cuts the letters a total height of 135mm.

The customer was supplied one set of letters with a call up height of 120mm which had an actual measured height using a ruler of 135mm high and 792mm long. We also supplied the second set free of charge just in case which actually measured with a ruler 120mm high and 701mm long.

We recommend that when ordering vinyl letters that the customer tells us the size of the panel that the letters are going onto. If we know the size of the panel that the letters are going onto we can check that the letters will fit and make adjustments to the height where necessary. If there is a question about the size of the letters we usually send a visual of the letters to the customer to confirm before we cut.
